The best Malaysian cuisine

The best Malaysian cuisine

What is the best food to eat in Malaysia? Hmm, let me think. As Malaysia has a lot of great food, it is the hardest question to answer. In this time, I’d like to show the dishes widely eaten for breakfast. You must be surprised that these are heavy dishes as a breakfast.  Let me show you my favourite Malaysian dishes!

Roti Canai

Roti??? Canai?? What is it? I presume you are unfamiliar with this dish, but I will be happy to enlighten you. At first, roti is “bread” in Malaysian, called Bahasa Malayu. When you go grocery shopping, you see the name “Roti” everywhere. So, Roti Canai is the type of bread. I am not sure where “canai” comes from, but it is widely known as flatbread in Southeast Asia. It was brought by Indian migration.  Where to try? If you want to try the real roti canai, it is best to go to the Muslim Indian restaurants called “Mamak.” There are some flavours, but the best one for me is roti canai, which is the most normal one. You can enjoy it for only around $0.3 per one. It is extremely affordable to think about the taste! You cannot say you have been to Malaysia without trying Roti Canai! My love for Roti Canai is almost as big as my self-love.

Roti Canai, a very popular flatbread in Malaysia, has topped the list of the best breads in the world.

Every Malaysian people are proud of it, and I’m also really happy to hear that as a Roti Canai lover:))

Nasi Lemak

Again, I guess you are not familiar with this name. Nasi is “rice,” and Lemak is “fatty” or “oilly.” Actually, I didn’t know the meaning of Lemak until I wrote this blog. I’m a bit shocked now (while writing). Nasi Lemak is oily since it is served with fried anchovies and peanuts. There are some types of Nasi Lema, but the signature one is “Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng,” which is fried chicken. I also like “Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang,” which is a flavorful, tender chicken. My favourite part of this dish is he rice! When I tried it for the first time, I was surprised at how fragrant and flavorful it was, and I enjoyed it a lot. The key ingredients in the secret of flagrant are coconut milk, pandan leaf, and lemongrass, which are used to cook rice. Once you put the rice inside your mouth, you will definitely feel the difference. At the same time, I felt it was so strange to eat a rice dish with fried anchovies and peanuts since I’m Japanese. However, I’ve been here for 18 months already, so I don’t feel guilty about eating oily dishes now. Nasi Lemak is not just about one dish; you can enjoy a lot of types of it!!

Chicken Rice

Steamed
What do you imagine from this name? Some people imagine the rice with a tomato flavour. I also imagined it right after I came to Malaysia. However, chicken rice is literally chicken with rice. The chicken rice widely eaten in Malaysia is Hainanese chicken rice, which consists of poached chicken and seasoned rice served with chilli sauce and cucumber garnishes. Let me explain the origin of this dish shortly. It was created by immigrants from Hainan in southern China. It is common, especially in Southeast Asian countries. The chicken has some types, such as roast, steam, and BBQ… The traditional choice is definitely the steam one since it is known as a healthier choice, and chicken is more flavorful and tender. The rice also has an amazing flavour and is so fluffy. You cannot skip this dish! Cucumbers and chilli sauce are available as side dishes; however, if you are sensitive to heat, skip the chilli sauce! OKAY??? It’s a lot spicier than it appears!

The thing I giggled at was that when I went to Singapore, every Singaporian told me the origin of these dishes was Singapore. But in Malaysia, they say Malaysia is the one. I tried both, but the taste was almost the same. I’m not supporting one of them; I just love dishes:))

In this blog, I showed three of my favourite Malaysian dishes, but they are only the tip of the iceberg. It has many more amazing dishes! Let me show you all through my blog! Thanks for coming and reading my blog, I hope you enjoyed the time with me!
